Hunters Guide

About Hunters Guide

Hunters Guide publishes free hunter education practice exams and licensing guides for Canada. There are 940 original practice questions for 10 provinces, 2 territories and the federal firearms course. Everything on the site is free.

Hunters Guide is Canadian owned and operated, and independently published. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of any provincial government, any hunter education administrator, or any other hunting website. Nobody pays us to say a course is good, and no course provider has any say in what goes on this site.

How are the practice questions written?

Every question is written from a province's published curriculum, not from anyone else's question bank. We work from each program's official chapter list. That way the questions follow what is actually examinable, not what feels like hunter education.

That distinction is not cosmetic. Writing to the syllabus showed us that our own first draft for British Columbia covered only four of its thirteen examinable chapters. It also included two topics that are not in the BC curriculum at all.

How do you know the questions are original?

Originality here is measured, not asserted. A script compares every question against phrasings collected from other hunter education sites. Anything that comes too close is rewritten from a different angle. If a single question fails, nothing is published.

The corpus stores one-way fingerprints, not anyone else's text. That is enough to measure how close two questions are, and not enough to rebuild anyone's work.

What does Hunters Guide refuse to publish?

Facts we cannot trace to a primary source. Several provinces publish no official pass mark or question count. The figures you see on other sites often trace back to course providers, not to the government that runs the course.

Where that happens, our pages say the figure is not published instead of repeating an unsourced number. Manitoba is the clearest example. An 80% pass mark does appear on a provincial site. But it belongs to the hunting guide licence exam, not to hunter education. Copying it across would have looked authoritative and been wrong.

Everything here is study material. It does not certify you to hunt, and it is not legal advice. Always confirm current rules in your province's regulations synopsis before heading out.

How do you handle corrections?

Corrections take priority over new content. Regulations change between seasons, and a question that was right last year can be wrong this year. That makes an error report more useful to us than almost any other message. Write to our contact page with the question ID and the province.

Questions about Hunters Guide

Are these the real exam questions?

No. Every question is original, written from published curriculum topics. Copying an official exam bank would infringe the copyright of whoever wrote it. It would also teach you to memorise answers instead of understanding the material.

Does passing your practice exam certify me?

No. A good score means you are ready to book a real exam. It is not a credential, a pass, or a substitute for the official course, and no website can give you one.

Why do some pages say a pass mark is not published?

Because it is not. Several provinces do not publish their pass mark or question count anywhere official. Numbers on third-party sites often trace back to course providers or vendor marketing. We would rather tell you a figure is unpublished than repeat one we cannot source.

How do I report a mistake?

Email [email protected] with the question ID and the province. Corrections are the fastest message we answer, because an inaccurate question is worse than no question at all.
