Hunters Guide

Terms of Use

Hunters Guide is free study material. Using the site means you accept the terms on this page. They are short, and they are written to be read rather than skipped.

This site is study material. It is not legal advice, and it is not official. Nothing here certifies you, licences you, or authorises you to do anything. Before you hunt, read the current regulations for the exact place you intend to hunt.

What this site is

We publish practice exams and guides for Canadian hunter education. Everything is free. There is no account and nothing to buy. Every question and answer is open; a scored exam asks for a first name and email.

The site is published independently. We describe how it is written, and what it refuses to publish, on the about page.

Not legal advice, and not official

Nothing on this site is legal advice: it is study material, and that is the whole of what it is. This clause matters most, so it comes first.

The practice questions are original. We write them from published curricula, not from anyone's real exam bank. They are our reading of what a course covers, which is not the same thing as the course itself.

A good score on a practice exam certifies nothing. It is not a pass, not a credential, and not a substitute for the official course and exam. No website can give you one of those.

Hunting rules in Canada are set separately by thirteen provincial and territorial governments, and firearms law is federal on top of that. Rules change between seasons. They differ within a single province, by management unit. So check the regulations that apply where you hunt, and do it before you go.

We are not affiliated with anyone

Hunters Guide is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to any of the following:

  • Any provincial or territorial government, or any of its agencies.
  • Any hunter education program, or the body that administers one.
  • The RCMP, or the Canadian Firearms Program.
  • Any course provider, school, instructor, or other hunting website.

Where we name one of those bodies, we do it to send you to what they published. Naming them is not a claim of any relationship with them.

Accuracy and dates

Every factual claim on this site carries the date we checked it. That date is there so you can judge how much weight to put on the line.

Fees, deadlines and rules change on schedules we do not control. A page that was right in September can be wrong by spring. Treat this site as a starting point and check the official source before you rely on anything.

If you find something wrong, tell us. Corrections come before new writing here. Send them through our contact page.

Our links to government and retailer sites

We link to official government pages so you can read the source yourself. On the ammunition price page we also link to retailers, so you can check a listing at the shop rather than trusting our table. Those links go straight to the retailer.

We do not control any of those sites. We are not responsible for what they publish, what they charge, or how they handle your data. A link is not an endorsement, and prices we show can be stale by the time you click.

Our material, and other people's

The text, the practice questions, the answer explanations and the images on this site are ours. Read them, study from them, and link to any page you like.

Do not copy the questions into your own site, course, or app. They took real work and they are not public domain. If you want to use them, ask first and we will give you a straight answer.

Government material quoted on the site belongs to the government that published it. We quote short passages, say who wrote them, and link to the source so you can read the rest.

What we do not promise

The site is provided as it is. We do not promise that it will be available, free of errors, or up to date on any given day.

We write carefully and we fix mistakes fast. That is a working habit, not a guarantee. You use the site at your own risk, and choices about hunting, firearms and the law remain yours.

So far as the law allows, we are not liable for any loss that follows from using this site or relying on it. We will not pretend that sentence is magic. A clause on a web page cannot sign away rights the law gives you, and where local law says a limit like this does not apply, it does not apply.

Governing law

British Columbia law, and the law of Canada that applies there, governs these terms. Any dispute about them goes to the courts of British Columbia.

When these terms change

We update this page when the site changes. The date at the top is the last change. Using the site after that date means you accept the version you find here.

How we handle data is a separate question, and it has its own page. See our privacy policy.

Questions about these terms

Does passing your practice exam certify me to hunt?

No. Nothing on this site certifies anything at all. A strong score means you are probably ready to book the real exam, and that is the whole of what it means. Certification comes from the body that runs hunter education where you live.

Are you connected to my provincial hunter education program?

No. Hunters Guide is independent. It has no link to any government, any program administrator, any course provider, or the RCMP. We name those bodies only to point you at what they have published.

Can I reuse your practice questions?

Not without asking. The questions are original work, written from published curriculum, and they are not in the public domain. Write to us with what you want to use and where it would appear, and we will give you a straight answer.

A rule on your site does not match my regulations. Which one is right?

The official regulations, every time. Rules change between seasons and differ by management unit, so read the synopsis for the exact place you intend to hunt. Then email us, because a page that is out of date needs fixing.
